Mint, known as Intuit Mint and formerly known as Mint.com, is a personal financial management website and mobile app for the US and Canada produced by Intuit, Inc.  Mint.com was originally created by Aaron Patzer in 2006 and provided account aggregation using Intuit’s own system for connecting to accounts after it was purchased by Intuit in 2009. It was later renamed from “Mint.com” to just “Mint”. Mint’s primary service allows users to track bank, credit card, investment, and loan balances and transactions through a single user interface, as well as create budgets and set financial goals

As of 2010, Mint.com claimed to connect with more than 16,000 US and Canadian financial institutions, and to support more than 17 million individual financial accounts. As of November 2013, Mint.com claimed to have more than 10 million users. In 2016, Mint.com claimed to have over 20 million users.

Mint is a free budgeting app that allows you to connect all of your financial accounts in one digital space so you get a high-level overview of your financial health. The app also allows users to track spending and savings and set and track budget goals. From Mint, users can sync up bank accounts, money management accounts, retirement and investment accounts, credit cards and other financial accounts. Also, all of the monthly bills can be track through Mint and set up bills payment reminders. After connecting your financial accounts, Mint tracks your transactions and categorizes them into budget categories to simplify tracking. Users can keep the default categories provided by Mint or create custom categories to fit their needs.

Mint is free for everyone to use. There are no premium versions of the app available for an added cost. Signing up for a free account gets you access to all of the app’s features and benefits. Mint makes its money on strategic partnerships with other companies, which is why the app features ads and offers for other financial products.

Having access to your investments in a budgeting app will enable you to get a complete snapshot of your finances in one spot. You can add all of your investment accounts, including 401(k), brokerage accounts, IRAs and more. The investment tracking tool allows you to compare your investment portfolio to market benchmarks and even track investment fees so you can see if there are any unnecessary charges.

Mint is not only free—it’s also easy to set up and use. There are times when you may need to reconnect a financial account, which can be a nuisance, but overall the app does exactly what it’s intended to do. Not only can you track spending and create budgets, but also you get overviews of all of your finances.

In conclusion, Mint provides the most value among the free budgeting apps and online website. It’s an excellent tool whether you’re a budgeting pro or a novice.
